Planned Giving/Guardians of the Future

You can help the scientists and physicians of the John Wayne Cancer Institute ensure that the battle against cancer, started so many years ago by the family of John Wayne, will be won. Your decision to include the Institute in your estate planning allows you to support this urgent work and leave a legacy for future generations. This simple act of generosity will serve as a testament to your vision, and it will be your gift of a lifetime.

There are many ways to make a planned gift that will support the charity you care about and also provide you with benefits such as reducing taxes and providing financial security.

Gifts of Stock

Contributing stocks or other appreciated assets to qualified charities, such as the John Wayne Cancer Institute can increase the value of your gift and reduce your taxes.  Donating appreciated stock or property enables you to deduct the fair market value of the investment asset while avoiding paying capital gains tax.

Bequests

Thank you for your consideration in naming John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) as a beneficiary of a gift or bequest. In appreciation, your generosity will be recognized in perpetuity on the Guardians of the Future donor wall in the lobby of the JWCI research center.

In naming John Wayne Cancer Institute as beneficiary of a gifting action, the following designation should be used:

I hereby make the following specific gift, free of all estate taxes, to John Wayne Cancer Institute, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located at 2200 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90404 to be used to support the highest priorities of the Institute:

$ _________ (dollar) amount (or) _____ % (percentage) of my estate (or) a description of a specific property.

John Wayne Cancer Institute
2200 Santa Monica Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA 90404
Federal Tax I.D. #95-4291515
California Exempt #38211637

Charitable Trusts

Charitable Trusts can help you meet a number of financial goals including planning retirement, providing for relatives, and funding educational expenses. These gifts can be funded with cash or appreciated securities. The benefits vary, but most charitable trust arrangements can do the following:

  • Provide annual payments for you and/or your spouse or another person
  • Reduce your tax bill with a charitable income tax deduction
  • Enable you to "unlock" income from highly appreciated but low yielding assets
  • Delaying, or altogether avoiding capital gains tax
  • Offer professional investment management
  • Save estate and gift taxes

As a means to thank those who have included the John Wayne Cancer Institute in their will or other planned gifts, the Institute has created the Guardians of the Future designation as a special donor honor. By providing written notification that the Institute has been included in your estate plans, you will qualify for this very special recognition.

As a Guardian of the Future, you will:

  • Be permanently and publicly recognized on the Guardians of the Future donor wall in the Institute’s research building.
  • Receive a bi-annual newsletter to keep you apprised of important programs in healthcare, research and clinical treatment.
  • Receive exclusive “behind-the-scenes” tours of the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
  • Be invited to educational symposia at which Institute advances in cancer research and treatment will be presented.
  • Gain the knowledge that every day you are a participant in medical breakthroughs which will help the lives of millions of people throughout the world.

We invite you to become a Guardian of the Future today. It’s this simple: Complete a review of your will or living trust and include the John Wayne Cancer Institute as a charitable beneficiary.

Then, complete the Guardians of the Future form and return it to:

John Wayne Cancer Institute
